A Heartfelt Surprise

A heartfelt surprise at Dan and Tebah’s Noonaweena celebration: Guests thought it was a wedding but discovered it was their second anniversary. With stunning views, family-filled moments, and unique touches, this intimate occasion was a joy to capture. A truly unique wedding at Noonaweena. Dan and Tebah created a wedding experience created entirely by themselves and their family. 

I’m sure the guests were wondering why a celebrant hadn’t shown up for Dan and Tebah’s ‘wedding’ at Noonaweena. Soon enough, their curiosity was put at ease when they realised, after opening personalised letters, that these two were already married!

Hawaii Elopement!

Dan and Tebah booked me early last year to capture their wedding at Noonaweena —or so I thought. It wasn’t until a few days before that they revealed their secret: they had already tied the knot two years ago in Hawaii! They explained they would only tell their children the night before, preparing them for their special roles during the ceremony.

As the guests arrived, they were handed envelopes with strict instructions not to open them until told. That moment came as Tebah and Dan walked to their chosen spot overlooking that magnificent view. With a few confused looks, guests opened their envelopes and soon realised this wasn’t a wedding—it was their second wedding anniversary! 

This was my first time photographing a ceremony without an officiant, and it was incredibly special. Dan and Tebah gave their family and friends the unique privilege of filling this role. It was their way of bringing together their loved ones to share in the happiness and joy of their marriage. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

After the initial surprise, hugs, and laughter, we headed out for some beautiful family photos. Followed by a few portraits of the (not-so-newly) married couple with their children. I left them to continue celebrating at the stunning Noonaweena—a venue I’d heard so much about and was happy to finally see it for myself. The views and their resident peacock were definite highlights!
